Skaala IFN Oy became part of the IFN Group. IFN Holding (Internationales Fenster Netzwerk) is Europe’s market leader for integrated solutions for windows. Like Skaala, IFN is a family business. The group’s companies include Internorm (Europe’s leading window brand), Schlotterer (Austrian market leader in sun protection systems) and GIG, which supplies façade solutions in the international market. The Hautanen family will continue to play an important role in Skaala, as reported in the press release after the sale in 2017:
“The IFN group will be a strong strategic partner that will help us develop the business successfully and expand our market reach.” Markku andHannu Hautanen will continue as minority shareholders.
Skaala is Finland’s leading window brand. Founded in 1956, the family business was managed by second-generation entrepreneurs until recently. The company employs around 400 people and posted sales of €96 million in 2016. Skaala manufactures and sells wood and wood/aluminium windows and doors in Finland, Sweden, Russia and the UK.
The company has made considerable investments in product development in recent years. The latest glass technology investment was implemented in 2016 to enable the manufacture of a range of glass components and products as well as the expansion of the company’s door and window range.
“Today, windows are not just about insulation capacity. Modern windows are highly complex systems. The recent investments were essential for us to maintain our position as the leading Finnish window brand,” says Hannu Hautanen.
Skaala had been looking for a partner to help it expand its market reach. “IFN is the ideal partner for us,” says Markku Hautanen. “The IFN group and the Internorm window brand have been leading players in the window industry for over 80 years, and they have excellent reach across Europe.” The acquisition will also help Skaala reinforce its position in the Nordic market.
“Skaala has a lot of potential. It is a good match with the IFN family in terms of its company structure, market position and product selection,” says Christian Klinger, co-owner of IFN Holding.
